This policy complies with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

1. Who We Are

MusoMap (Pty) Ltd ("MusoMap", "we", "us", "our") operates the MusoMap mobile application and website at musomap.co.za. We are the responsible party (as defined under POPIA) for the personal information we collect.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 General Users (Music Fans)

If you browse MusoMap without signing in, we do not collect any personal information beyond standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) which are used solely for security and performance monitoring.

If you choose to sign in using Google or Apple, we receive the following from that provider:

• Your name or display name
• Your email address (if shared by the provider)
• Your profile picture URL (if shared by the provider)
• A unique identifier from that provider

We use this information to maintain your account, save your favourited artists and venues, and provide a personalised experience.

2.2 Artist Accounts

Artists who register directly provide:

• Email address and password (stored as a cryptographic hash)
• Stage name and real name (real name is optional and not publicly displayed)
• City, biography, genres, and social media links
• Profile and event images you upload
• Contact email and phone number (optional)

2.3 Venue Accounts

Venue operators whose accounts are created by MusoMap provide:

• Venue name, address, city, and geographic coordinates
• Contact email address and phone number
• Venue description and images
• Login credentials (email and password hash)

2.4 Location Data

If you grant the App permission, we access your device's location in order to:

• Sort upcoming events by distance from your current location
• Pan the map to your current position

Location data is used only in real time for these features. We do not store your precise location history on our servers.

2.5 Usage and Analytics Data

For venue accounts, we record certain interaction events including:

• Views of a venue's profile page
• Map pin impressions (when a venue pin was visible on screen)
• Pin click-throughs
• Directions requests

These events are aggregated and displayed on the venue's analytics dashboard. They may be associated with a logged-in user's account ID but are not used to build individual user profiles for advertising purposes.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use personal information only for the following purposes:

• To create and maintain your account
• To display your public artist or venue profile to other users of the platform
• To provide features such as favouriting, event sharing, and proximity sorting
• To provide venue operators with analytics about how users discover their venue
• To communicate important account, security, or service-related information
• To enforce our Terms and Conditions and protect the integrity of the platform
• To comply with applicable South African law

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your information for targeted advertising.

4. Information We Share

Artist and venue profiles, including stage name, biography, genres, photos, city, and social media links, are publicly visible to all users of the MusoMap platform (including unauthenticated users). By submitting this information, you consent to it being displayed publicly.

We may share information with the following third-party service providers who act as operators under POPIA:

• Cloud infrastructure provider: For database and file storage hosting
• Google LLC: For mapping services (Google Maps) and authentication (Google Sign-In)
• Apple Inc.: For authentication (Apple Sign-In)

These providers are contractually required to handle your information securely and only for the purposes we specify.

We may also disclose information where required by South African law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of MusoMap, its users, or the public.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your personal information is stored on secure cloud servers. We implement industry-standard security measures including:

• Encrypted HTTPS connections for all data in transit
• Cryptographic hashing of passwords (bcrypt)
• Access controls limiting which personnel can access personal data
• Regular security reviews

While we take every reasonable precaution, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as your account is active, or as necessary to provide our services. If you request account deletion, we will delete or anonymise your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes.

7. Your Rights Under POPIA

As a data subject under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013, you have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• Correction: Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information
• Deletion: Request that we delete your personal information (subject to legal retention obligations)
• Objection: Object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances
• Complaint: Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa if you believe we have violated POPIA

8. Children's Privacy

MusoMap is not intended for use by persons under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Third-Party Links

Artist profiles may include links to external social media profiles (Instagram, Facebook, etc.). MusoMap is not responsible for the privacy practices of these external sites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date. If the changes are material, we will notify registered users via email or in-app notification.
